The University Startup List is an announcement list. We are looking for a brief announcement of the formation of each pre-startup/startup with a connection to a university. University Startups for the purposes of the list are defined as any startup with a nexus to the university, including through licensing, faculty, student, researcher, staff, alumni or research park/incubator tenant. It is not just startups formed out of the tech transfer office, but anywhere at the university.

Your submission can include incorporated and pre-incorporated startups, where you are looking for experienced entrepreneurs, board of advisers, board of directors, investors*, and/or corporate partners, but there must be a champion (faculty, student, alumnus, researcher or entrepreneur) already leading the company. In other words, we are not looking for a list of technologies without a dedicated person already leading the startup process.

Because this is the first year for such a list, we are playing catch-up, so please include any active university startups, even if a few years old.

*When putting together your submission, please note a certain sensitivity that the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission has to the "general solicitation" of investors, which may seem rather arcane and counter-intuitive to people not familiar with the securities laws. For more information about the SEC requirements, please see the Q&A: Small Business and the SEC-- A guide to help you understand how to raise capital and comply with the federal securities laws.
Please click here to go to the SEC Guide.

While we will take an overly conservative approach to the securities laws, you should NOT include any financial, investment or confidential information in the listing, but rather please provide only generic company information appropriate for a public list.
